What type of paint should I use to put a logo on a box of maple drum?

I am building a battery measurement using the Maple deposits and want a design to paint on deposits. I was told I etch the design with a knife or paint before bleeding. I want the tank have a natural finish with a layer of lacquer. The drawing is in black. What is the best paint to use in this situation?
