What is the best way to paint a picture of the drum head?

I bought a clear framework of a drum festival in almost 3 weeks and I would put a Celtic design on the head, but I do not want to damage the drum head. I know I should not use the dyeing leather, but I do not paint the leather in my area. Suggestions?
